GREEN LAB GRANJA
OFF GRID FARM | ANDALUSIA | 2022
Located just 10km from the Mediterranean coastline, Green Lab Granja is a 10,000 sqm permaculture and agricultural demonstration site nestled in the rustic Andalusian landscape near the village of Moclinejo. Here, Green Lab is realising its vision for future ‘off-grid’, zero-carbon, sustainable agriculture adapted to the realities of a changing climate.
Established in early 2022, the project is guided by a five-year design strategy to evolve into a fully self-sustaining off-grid agricultural facility. The site incorporates nature-based systems, renewable energy, composting, vermiculture for soil regeneration, and advanced water conservation — all with the goal of producing high-value, low-water crops. The work directly addresses the challenges of farming in Andalusia, one of several officially designated water-scarcity zones in Southern Europe.
Green Lab Granja is operated by Asociación Agraria Green Lab Granja a registered Spanish NGO founded by Andrew Gregson and Sonsoles Díaz. As a volunteer-driven initiative, the NGO serves as both a steward of the land and a platform for community participation, experimentation, and knowledge exchange. Through hands-on engagement, volunteers help shape a living prototype of climate-resilient agriculture rooted in local context and global collaboration.
ACHIEVEMENTS TO DATE

LOOKING AHEAD
Over the next three years (2025 – 2028), Green Lab aims to establish the site as an agricultural innovation centre for Andalusia — serving both as a local community hub and a rural knowledge centre for farmers navigating the impacts of climate change. By blending regenerative agriculture, off-grid infrastructure, and open-source innovation, the project offers a tangible blueprint for rural resilience and ecological regeneration.
