Experiencia Clima

GEODESIC DOMES | MALAGA | 2024

Immersive climate education experience empowering young minds through storytelling, systems thinking, and hands-on sustainable design.

Green Lab was commissioned by the Diputación de Málaga to design Experiencia Clima, an immersive, concept-led educational experience focused on climate awareness and action for children and young people aged 6 to 17.

Planned for Ardales – a rural municipality in the province of Málaga, southern Spain – the project aimed to engage young audiences emotionally, physically, and intellectually. The brief called for a high-impact experience that could turn complex climate themes into creative, hands-on learning, and act as a replicable model for wider regional use.

Working closely with local stakeholders, Green Lab developed a full concept for a large-scale outdoor experience centred on five interactive geodesic domes. Each dome was themed:

  • Sustainable Living
  • Renewable Energy
  • Biodiversity
  • Climate Action and a central
  • Earth Dome – the emotional and narrative heart of the journey.

The domes were designed to host age-appropriate challenges, tactile exhibits, digital storytelling and audiovisual immersion. The experience followed a narrative arc from a dark, “sick” Earth to a hopeful, restored future co-created by participants.

A key feature was the “Climate Passport” — a personalised journal and gamified learning tool for each participant. It guided them through the experience, recorded progress with stamps and QR codes, and triggered visual and audio activations in the domes. Designed to be playful and educational, the passport encouraged engagement, reflection, and a sense of achievement.

The wider interpretive zone featured speculative installations representing sustainable systems — including hydroponics, pollinator habitats, compost toilets and recycled art. Although not built at this stage, Green Lab produced detailed layouts, visualisations and programming plans to support future implementation. All elements were grounded in circular design and regenerative thinking, supporting immersive, systems-based learning.
